At Home Day 7 – Last Day Before Another Two Weeks At The Resort!

December 2, 2013

I feel like today is the final exam for my “Life At Home” week.  My wife has planned adult game night this evening and I am going to have to entertain and have some health options for me (and guests if they so choose.)  It is kind of exciting for me because I want to be more social, but every time I start a life change I find that I try to limit my exposure to my friends since they all seem to bond through food and booze.  I plan on enjoying the company and games tonight with some hummus wraps, melon skewers and caprese salad skewers.  Not bad right?  I am going to drink as well, but I think I am going to limit myself to bourbon with no sugar.  Such a healthy choice right?

The good part about assembling the menu is in the morning I went to the local farmers market and bought some fresh cherry tomatoes for all the skewers.  I am excited about them and all the different finger foods I am going to make with them.  I love being able to participate in locally grown food.  It is so odd that in a farming community the access to locally grown produce is less than if I were in Indianapolis or Dayton.

IMG_7647So I slept in this morning and when I woke up my legs and arms are sore from my workouts this week.  This is perfect since I chose to take Saturday and Sunday off from working out to make sure I was good to go Monday morning.  I had a nice yogurt parfait this morning and was quickly out the door to the farmers market and grocery.  It is a good feeling to be sore from working out and still feel more comfortable walking around shopping and outside at the markets than before.  Even though I am still super heavy my movement is becoming easier.  My goal for the next two weeks is to make stairs my bitch.  I still am having a hard time muscling up stairs and I think it is because I have been taking it easy with lunges and other exercises because of my weak/hurt knee.  No more excuses, muscle up time!

IMG_7649Game night went on without a hitch.  I made a ton of healthy food options and no one really even noticed they were eating mostly healthy foods, which is a win.  I even made some vegetarian humus wraps from the Biggest Loser Resort Niagara recipe list, and I loved them as my main meal.  The games were fun, but I did partake too much of the mint juleps.  The bad part about that is that it led to me continuing to graze on the finger foods I had made.  The good part is that they were all mostly healthy things like caprese salad skewers, melon prosciutto skewers, tomatoes stuffed with lowfat homemade creamy pesto and the veggie hummus wraps.  I even made the chocolate strawberries from the resort too, and those went fast!  I wish I had a little more control over the alcohol, but again I still feel like my week was a success.  We shall see tomorrow if that holds up for the scale.
