Day 21 at the Biggest Loser Resort in Utah: The finish line… and a new beginning.

December 13, 2011

Comments/Thoughts (Saturday 12-10-11):

Such a mixture of emotions as I did my last hike today.  Both Kim and Sean were not feeling well today so they did not do the hike.  I actually spent my time hiking with Ilene, who has become a good friend in the last few days here.  We hiked all the way up to the stop sign and a little bit of the way out to the overlook.  It was a very easy hike for me at this point.  I barely sweat (which is crazy since I am a sweating machine) and was rarely out of breath.  It is truly amazing how fast your body can become used to hard work.  The feeling you get from getting more physically fit is hard to explain.  I had some tremendous news at my weigh in, I have lost 29.2 pounds in 3 weeks.  That is more then I lost in my 4 week stay at Malibu.  Did I push myself harder then I did in Malibu?  Only emotionally is the answer, and if you go back and read my posts here versus what I did in Malibu you will find I spent much less time punishing my body, and much more time working on my emotions.  I honestly lost 8 more pounds then I thought was possible, and I celebrated when I got to Vegas for my night out with friends by going to an amazing clothing store here for larger men.  It was the most amazing place I have seen with things in my size, and I thank Sean SO much for taking me there.  Did you know that Michael Kors sells things in 2X+ sizes?  It was news to me and I bought myself a goal shirt for my future weightloss, and a couple of items that fit me nicely now.  I know I will grow out of them quickly, but it feels great to have some new clothes to go with my new sense of well being.  I am truly happy to be coming home and look forward to embracing all the challenges there.  At the end of the day as much as I do this for myself, I also do it for Jennifer, Jackson and Katie, because I need them and I know they need me.  The best gift I feel I can give to my family this Christmas is a commitment to my health for the family.  I feel that I have a great start and I intend to keep it up.

Did I mention that I spent my last night of this trip in Vegas?  I booked a cheap room for myself at Mandalay and Sean and Kim were gracious enough to drive me here and take me to Mystere (Cirque du Soleil show) at Treasure Island.  It was amazing, and my third cirque show.  We had a sensible sushi dinner and I lost 50$ gambling, and most importantly we all said our goodbyes and promised to keep up with each other on our journeys.  One of the most amazing things about Fitness Ridge are the people you meet that are on the same journey you are.  There is a level of understanding there that is amazing from the trainers/staff to the amazing people you are working out with everyday.  I have made incredible friends each time I have been to the resort, and this time was no different.  Sean was an inspiration from the time I got here, he has lost 130+ pounds and has been at the resort 22+ weeks in total.  I feel honored to be one of his friends, and his success and atitude will continue to motivate me as I move on through my journey.  Kim was also an amazing person to get to know, and it was fun swapping stories about our children and spouses.  We both have great families at home who care and support us, and she was my constant companion on hikes for three weeks.  I wish them the best of luck as I head home.  I know that once again I will have friends that I stay in touch with from this trip as well.

Well I did do my last hike and I decided I would do Stop Sign with Ilene.  We had a great talk and the hike was not very challenging, but the company was great.  It was good to get in my final hike and have it feel like an accomplishment.  I did walk a ton in Vegas, maybe even equal to a hike, but it is hard to measure that since I did not sweat.  I did sweat some on the stop sign hike.  Such a good time in Utah and even though it was cold I loved it.

I had eggs and toast for breakfast as usual these days.  I was not interested in the granola cereal that was being offered, though I am sure itis great.  For lunch I had a chicken salad sandwich which was just ok and some tomato soup which I really enjoyed.  It was off to Vegas and I had some iced coffee with a splash of half and half and for dinner I had half a cup of red miso mushroom soup, approximately 8 pieces of sushi (slightly more than usual)and we had a tremendous mango ceviche split three ways on some plantain chips.  It was FANTASTIC, and best of all it was with a couple of great friends.
